PERTH LYNX HEAD TO BALLARAT FOR A FESTIVAL OF BASKETBALL
Regional Victoria will host 15 WNBL matches across January as part of a festival of women’s basketball.
The Perth Lynx will be based in Ballarat for the month of January, training at Selkirk Stadium where there will be opportunities to meet the players and attend training sessions. The festival will see all WNBL teams venture to Ballarat for games.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula today announced the games to be held in Ballarat and Gippsland. Minister Pakula said, “We’re bringing more basketball to regional Victoria because sporting events attract visitors and support local jobs. As Australia’s premier sporting state, we’re delivering a packed events calendar this summer right across Victoria.”
Basketball Ballarat has also been working hard to ensure the team are equipped with everything required. They are excited to have us in town. “Basketball Ballarat is thrilled with the announcement that WNBL’s Perth Lynx will call Ballarat home in January 2022. To have a national women’s elite team here in Ballarat showcasing Australia’s finest Basketball talent is an absolute coup,” says Nev Ivey, CEO of Basketball Ballarat.
Perth Lynx and other WNBL teams will play 5 games during January 2022 in what will be an action-packed start to the year. Perth Lynx coaching staff and players have also committed to a number of community engagement activities, including clinics and fan engagement. Aspiring players and coaches from Ballarat and the region will have the opportunity to engage with some of the best female Basketball talent in Australia currently.
Nev Ivey states, “We would like to acknowledge the work of the State Government and Basketball Australia and thank them both for selecting Ballarat as the host.”
Perth Lynx General Manager Brent Dawkins said, “Our team is excited by the challenge and, much like the WNBL hub last year, will use the extended time away from home to continue building a solid winning team culture. We can’t wait to return to Perth and welcome all our fans back on February 20th at Bendat Basketball Centre.”
