Haylee Cole

Local Association: Hills Hornets Basketball Association, NSW

WNBL Experience:  14 games

Occupation: Primary School Teacher

Playing Experience: Local Competition player, never played reps – always reffed

Involvement in Refereeing: Started refereeing in 2005 ( I was 10yrs old! ). My older brother had started officiating, so I wanted to follow in his footsteps. Was always at home, pretending to be the referee, practicing signals in the bathroom mirror and just couldn’t wait to start refereeing. On my first ever game as an official, when refereeing U10 mixed mini competition, I actually got told to stop calling fouls and travels, because I was just simply too keen!

Mentors:  Biggest influence on my refereeing career would be Rebecca Brockway. She was and still is a fantastic mentor, especially as another female official. I always inspired to be like Rebecca and was fortunate enough to referee my first ever WNBL game with her. Having her alongside me was something that I will always treasure. She was and still continues to have a positive impact on my refereeing. If it wasn’t for her encouragement and guidance, as a young and upcoming female official, I am not sure that I would be where I am today without her!
