Aimie Rocci keeping a positive outlook

The season has been a frustrating one for Flyers Captain Aimie Rocci due to a back injury which has kept her out of action since early December.

Aimie has not taken to the court since the Flyers home game against Townsville on December 10, having to support her teammates from the bench while recovering from the back injury.

The injury interrupted her pre-season preparations but did not keep her out of action for the first seven games of the season as she led the Flyers in her first year as captain.

“It’s a disappointing outcome for me to be missing such a large chunk of the season. I had a stress fracture in my lower back leading into the season but was able to make it back for the opening round. Unfortunately, over the course of the first seven games, I injured the other side of my back, adding to the frustration,” Aimie said this week.

“Right now I have to continue to focus on what I can control, but the ultimate goal is to be back in time to be part of what we hope is a big finals campaign, in whatever capacity I can,” Aimie added.

The support from her teammates and the Flyers fans has certainly been very welcome, particularly when working through such a frustrating injury. Especially the many fans who want to see her back on the court as soon as possible.

“The support has been great, and obviously people are asking when I will be back. At this stage I am waiting for the eight week follow up scans, and if all goes well, I will do everything I can to be back with the group,” Aimie added.

While not involved in the action on the court in recent weeks, Aimie has certainly been busy working with the team and the coaching staff, adding to her leadership role with the Flyers.
