Another Championship Player Back For More
Carley Ernst, a member of the Flyers 2023/24 WNBL Championship team will be continuing her career with the Flyers in the upcoming season.
Carley enjoyed a very successful season, highlighted by her performances in the WNBL Finals, with both her inside and outside games, including a number of big three’s that shut down any thought of a Perth comeback in game three of the Grand Final series.
“I am loving my time at the Flyers. Obviously winning the championship was fantastic, but it is more than that, it is the great atmosphere, it really is like a big family. We have a great team and staff and fantastic supporters,” Carley said while enjoying a well-earned break this week.
After winning the WNBL Championship with the Flyers, Carley, together with Bec Cole, led the Waverley Falcons to the NBL1 South Championship and then the National Championship, making it three victories in five months. Carley was the Grand Final MVP in the NBL1 South Grand Final victory.
Flyers coach, Kristi Harrower is certainly pleased to have Carley back with the Flyers.
“I have seen Carley from the opposition bench twice in finals’ series this year (Kristi being an Assistant Coach at the Boomers and the Head Coach of Keilor in the NBL1) and I am very glad she is on our team for the upcoming WNBL season. We all know she can shoot the ball, and sometimes I think because of that, it can be easy to forget about her inside game, at both ends of the court,” Kristi said.
Carley was a Dandenong Rangers junior player and made her WNBL debut for the AIS when she was just 15 years of age. She represented Australia as a junior for I17s and U19s where she won a bronze medal in the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships. A member of the Opals squad in 2013, she was drafted to the Washington Mystics in the 2014 WNBA draft.
We all look forward to seeing Carley back with the Flyers, not to mention her lucky mascot, son Kylan, who we will get to see on the court after our home games.
The WNBL fixture is due for release next week and once announced, the Flyers will confirm other players set to be part of the Flyers 2024/25 WNBL season.
