BISHOP OUT FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON

February 7, 2022 | Southside Flyers news

Southside Flyers star Abby Bishop will miss the remainder of the WNBL season due to injury.

An MRI confirmed that Bishop has suffered a central tendon tear of the soleus muscle.

Bishop originally felt pain in her Achilles against Perth Lynx on January 27th, but was comfortable enough to play out the game. Three days later, against the Flames, Bishop exited the game with 3:59 remaining in the first quarter unable to run on her Achilles without pain.

Rehab is projected at 8-10 weeks and due to the shortened WNBL season, announced last month, this will unfortunately rule Bishop out for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

Bishop’s addition to this Flyers team has been outstanding, averaging 13.4 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 30.5 minutes per game. She has recorded four double double’s this season in her 8 games.

It is unfortunate timing for Bishop who was also recently named in the Opals squad.

“I’m obviously really disappointed to be missing the season” Bishop said.

“I was really enjoying playing with the Flyers fam this season, it’s such a great group of people and a really special club to be involved with, but unfortunately this is just a part of sport.

“I’ll now focus on my rehab, cheer loudly from the sidelines and if all goes smoothly I’ll be back on court in 8-10 weeks.

“I’m in good hands with our physio, doctor and strength coach, there is a good plan in place for me to rest, recover, heal and get back stronger!”

Getting back stronger is all we want for this star individual and the Flyers Family will make sure that happens with plenty of support around her.

The Flyers will have extra support on the sidelines when they take on the Capitals in their next game on the 17th of Feb at the National Convention Centre in Canberra.
