Disappointing loss on the road
Flyers looking to get back home after a disappointing loss in Adelaide
After two big wins on the road in the second round, the Flyers headed to Adelaide looking for three in a row on the road. Unfortunately the form from the games in Canberra and Townsville from the previous week deserted the Flyres in the City of Churches and it was a night to forget.
Going into the game as the team shooting the best percentage from beyond the arc and the best at protecting the ball, it was all lost in Adelaide. Shooting just two three pointers from 21 attempts and turning the ball over 26 times was enough to tell you the story of how the game went for Southside.
And yet with all the mistakes and a team that looked ‘flat’, the Flyers were able to get to within six with under seven minutes to play, after trailing earlier by 15. In the end the Lightning held firm and enjoyed an 11-point victory 67-56.
A one-point lead at the first break for the Flyers was soon forgotten as Adelaide went into the main break with a 13-point lead (39-26) after the Flyers scored just 11-points in the second period. To make matters worse, the Flyers managed just nine points in the third period, however on the positive side, Adelaide were restricted to just 8-points.
Not much to celebrate for Southside, with Mercedes Russell 14 points and Bec Cole 11, the only Flyers in double figures.
The good news it is back home on Wednesday, November 22 with a big game against Perth Lynx at the State Basketball Centre with tip off at 7:00pm.
