FLYERS ASSIST FOR LIFELINE AUSTRALIA

December 7, 2023 | Southside Flyers news

Most important assists for the Flyers this Saturday night will be for Lifeline.

Flyers Championship Captain and former Opals Captain, Jenna O’Hea will be the special guest of the Southside Flyers for the Flyers Lifeline Game at the State Basketball Centre on Saturday night. The Lifeline Game is an important fundraising and awareness campaign to support Lifeline Australia via the Flyers Assist Program.

One Assist = $100

In keeping with the assist theme, the Flyers will donate $100 for every assist made in Saturday’s game against Bendigo Spirit to shine a spotlight on mental health. Supporters are invited to make donations through the Southside Flyers Lifeline page  Click Here  to donate.

The Flyers have dedicated a game for Lifeline every year since joining the competition. It was the initiative of the Flyers inaugural captain, Jenna O’Hea in 2019 and the team is committed to continuing the support every season.

Captain Bec Cole said the Lifeline Game was important to the Flyers and the game against the Spirit was selected as it is in the lead up to Christmas, knowing this can be a difficult time of the year for some people. Plus Jenna played for both teams.

“I played with Jenna, she was such an inspirational leader for us, a championship captain, and the Lifeline game is something we want to continue as it honours our former captain and supports Lifeline and the incredible work they do in the community,” Bec said at training this week.

For Jenna, the game has a very special meaning. It was after the suicide of her beloved Uncle Ferg in 2018, that she wanted to help those living with mental health conditions and raise awareness of the importance of talking about mental health. From this Jenna became an Ambassador for Lifeline and the first WNBL Lifeline round was introduced in 2019. While no longer an official part of the WNBL calendar, it is part of the Flyers calendar.

Jenna and Bec said the support of all basketball fans was important and they invited everyone to donate and be part of the Flyers Assist Program to support Lifeline.
