Flyers Clash With Lightning Postponed For COVID-19 Precautions

Basketball Australia has had to postpone today’s 2020 Chemist Warehouse WNBL Round 2 match featuring the Jayco Southside Flyers and Adelaide Lightning in Townsville (6:00PM AEST).

On Monday 16 November, the Queensland Government advised the Australian public that anyone who had entered the state of Queensland from South Australia on or after Monday 9 November must self-isolate until they have been tested for COVID-19. The Lightning departed Adelaide at 6:10am (local) on Monday 9 November on a direct flight to Brisbane.

Coach Cheryl Chambers said that while it’s disappointing that tonight’s clash will need to be postponed the health of the WNBL & Queensland communities obviously needs to come first.

“We were looking forward to tonight’s game and it is obviously disappointing that it has been necessary for it to be postponed. However the health and safety of the players and everyone involved, and indeed the community, is the priority.

“We are certainly thinking of everyone at Adelaide Lightning and wish them the very best as they self-quarantine for a few more days. We will now turn our attention to Thursday night’s game against Townsville.”
