FLYERS SOAR TO THE TOP OF THE TABLE
The Flyers get the win over the Fire in Townsville 77-70. Led by Mercedes Russell with 24-points and 14 rebounds, the Flyers didn’t surrender the lead again after taking the lead midway through the first period.
Two wins on the road has moved the Flyers to top spot on the Cygnett WNBL ladder with one game remaining. After a hard fought victory over Sydney Flames on Sunday, the Flyers had a seven point victory over the Fire in Townsville on Wednesday night to move to the top of the table. However, top spot is still up for grabs with the Flyers needing a victory against Adelaide on Saturday to secure the minor championship.
With the game being played at the Parkville Stadium, the team will be looking for plenty of support to make it a real Flyers atmosphere as they strive to retain top spot. Thanks to the support from Jayco, tickets for Saturday night start at just $5. Click Here to Purchase.
The Flyers led at every change; by seven at the end of the first period (23-16) and by nine at halftime (49-40). While the scoring slowed for both teams in the second half, the Flyers maintained the nine point advantage at the end of the third period (64-55), while being outscored by two points in the final period (13-15), to win by seven.
Lauren Jackson added 17-points and Maddy Rocci 11, with both Jasmine Dickey and Nyadiew Puoch having eight points.
Top of the ladder for a few days, but no time to celebrate, the focus now turns to Saturday’s game against Adelaide Lightning and the chance to finish the season on top with momentum going into the finals.
