FLYERS START HOOPSFEST WITH A VICTORY
The Flyers started HoopsFest with a strong 93-71 victory over the home team, Perth Lynx, at the RAC Arena in Perth on Friday.
The pre-season tournament is all about the next generation of players for the WNBL with senior players involved providing the experience and support for the younger players.
Nikita Young led the scoring for the Flyers with 19-points in just over 16-minutes of court time, and Dallas Loughridge added 18-points in a very positive showing in her 27-minutes on the floor. Bec Cole, Maddy Rocci and new Flyer Alice Kunek all enjoyed some time on the court, each posting 10 or more points on the scorecard.
Manny Puoch enjoyed her first game in Flyers colours with a game-high 10 rebounds to go with 11-points in almost 23-minutes of game time. Other young player to enjoy game time in the first pre-season ‘hit out’ were Paige Burrows, Imogen Rock, Sarah Portlock and Shannon Dufficy.
The Flyers second, and final game, in the HoopsFest competition will be against Adelaide Lightning at Bendat Basketball Centre on Saturday September 21. Tip-off is at 7:00pm AEST (5pm local Perth time).
