Jayco Southside Flyers Injury Update

It has been a disappointing season with several injuries impacting the Flyers season and interrupting continuity for individual players and the team. As we head into the pointy end of the Cygnett WNBL Season, the good news with the expected return of Carley Ernst, has been offset by an injury to our Captain, who sustained a hamstring injury in Townsville on Saturday night. Bec will join Mikki Vaughn on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.
Below is an update on the status of several players who have sustained injuries in recent weeks.
Positive News:
Carley Ernst – Back Injury
Carley Ernst has been working extremely hard on her recovery from a back injury sustained following training the game against Bendigo earlier this season and is set to return to the court in the next two weeks. Carley has made significant progress in her rehab, a testament to the work she has done, and the determination displayed to get back on court and she is on track to make a full recovery. We’re all excited that we will get to see her back in action and contributing to the team once she’s fully fit and ready.
Nikita Young – Ankle Injury
In better news, Nikita Young is expected to make a recovery from an ankle injury she sustained during training in the lead-up to the game against Townsville on January 4. The good news is that Nikita is hoping to return for our Round 13 game against the Capitals on January 25. Her positive outlook and determined work in rehabilitation have contributed to her returning to the court, and we’re all looking forward to seeing her back in action soon.
Disappointing News:
Bec Cole – Hamstring Injury
Unfortunately, Bec Cole suffered a hamstring injury during our Round 11 game against Townsville when she appeared to slip on the large decal in the key. After undergoing medical assessments, it has been confirmed that Bec will be out for the remainder of the season. This is a significant loss to our lineup. Bec has been a standout leader and has put together some incredible performances on the court throughout the season. The entire team and coaching staff wish her a speedy recovery and full rehabilitation.
Mikki Vaughn – Achilles Injury
Mikki Vaughn has been sidelined with an Achilles injury in recent weeks. Mikki worked her way through the injury but suffered a setback in the last game of the year against Sydney on December 30. Following further assessment, it has been determined that Mikki will be unable to return for the remainder of the season. This is a tough setback, and we know the team and fans will miss her on the court.
Wishing Our Athletes a Speedy Recovery
The injuries to key players have certainly been challenging, but we’re confident that each of these athletes will continue to show their resilience as they work towards recovery. The team is supporting them every step of the way, and we know that our injured players will return stronger than ever.
The Flyers are very fortunate to have the support from a wonderful medical team who continue to provide the very best treatment and support for the players, with the priority always being the well-being of the athletes.
