OPALS WIN BRONZE IN PARIS
CONGRATULATIONS – OPALS WIN THE BRONZE
Lauren Jackson wins her 5th Olympic Medal.
A Championship with the Flyers in March and a Bronze Medal with the Opals in August add to the GOATS incredible record.
In Paris it came down to the final 30 seconds with a big block from Steph Talbot and a great defensive set which forced a Belgium shot clock violation. Then it was ice the free throws to grind out the win 85-81 to secure the bronze medal.
For Lauren Jackson it was another Olympic Medal in her 5th in five Olympic campaigns. In all Jackson has two bronze and three silver Olympic medals. The Oplas have won six Olympic Medals and Jackson has been part of five of them, the 1996 bronze, before Jackson commenced her international career, the only one she was not part of.
Ezi Magbegor, who plays for Jackson’s WNBA team, Seattle Storm, was outstanding in the play-off game for bronze, with 30-points and 13 rebounds.
A wonderful comeback from a team that started their Olympic campaign in poor fashion with an unexpected loss to Nigeria. However, the Opals have shown their class and determination to fight back to finish the campaign in great style.
Congratulations!
