Lauren said it was great to be involved with the Jayco Celebration Game and to be able to support Flyers owner Gerry Ryan and his wife Val who have been such great supporters of her and women’s basketball for so long.

“Gerry has been fantastic, I played the last two years with Southside, went through all those injuries and he supported me through that and then coming back to play last year when we won the championship, I really wanted us to do that for him.

He’s always been supportive of women’s basketball, he sponsored the Opals and I knew him through that, but I’ve really got to know him and Val and their family over the course of this last couple of years and the highs and the lows we’ve gone through, Lauren said from Albury this week.

The Jayco relationship has continued with Jayco sponsoring Lauren’s She Hoops program, providing great support, including funding for the She Hoops Scholarship Program in conjunction with Lauren’s WNBL Club, Seattle Storm.

“Jayco is a major sponsor of She Hoops, so he’s been amazing and so supportive so it’s just nice to be able to get back down there and thank him for everything he’s done.

Sunday’s game will commence at 12:30pm at the State Basketball Centre, with doors open from 11:30am. There will be action on and off the court with giveaways, prizes, the Jayco mascot Jayco J joining the Flyers mascot Gail Force to meet fans, She Hoops activities for the younger supporters,  the Metaltex Half Court competition, the Knox Ford Everest Challenge and the Gumbuya World Theme Park 3×3 Junior Competition Grand Final.

A Flyers team signed singlet will be won during the game and the Flyers will be on court for a post-game meet and greet with fans.

Adding to the day is the fantastic Flyers merchandise specials that will only be available at the game on Sunday.

It is a Jayco celebration day, and the final word on why Jayco and Gerry and Val Ryan deserve to be recognised and supported is from Lauren. While understanding the day is about thanking the Flyers fans and celebrating Jayco’s 50th year, Lauren knows that while it would be appropriate for it to be a day of recognition for Gerry and Val, it is not what they would want.

“Gerry has been instrumental in my career, especially this second part, and I really couldn’t have done it without him and the support of Jayco. He always been family first and he really lived that, with making sure I was able to have my kids with me during last season, which was the most important thing to me in the world.

“He’s been such a supportive figure in my career and he is someone who will be very dear to my heart for the rest of my life.

 “What a man.”
