Belinda Snell named Sparks Head Coach

The Sydney Uni Sparks are pleased to announce Belinda Snell has been named SEABL head coach for the 2018 season.

Snell is a three-time WNBL Champion and four-time WNBL All-Star 5 with the league’s record for the most points in a game (54) and most made three-pointers (12).

The triple-Olympian and former World Champion has also won a WNBA Championship and a Euroleague title.

Snell, Captain of the Brydens Sydney Uni Flames, was a member of the Sparks coaching staff in 2017, alongside fellow Flames player Hayley Moffatt and Karen Dalton. She will replace Karen Dalton in the role of head coach with Dalton to remain heavily involved in the program.

Dalton said Snell will excel in the role and looks forward to seeing her in action as coach.

“She will bring her experience as a player to the role and massively impact these young girls as they come through the program.”

In their inaugural season, the Sparks advanced to the Eastern Conference preliminary finals, a tremendous achievement in their maiden year in the league.

The Sparks program is an extension of the Brydens Sydney Uni Flames already burgeoning development pathway for female basketball players in New South Wales.

The team is comprised primarily of players currently training in the Flames Academy, with members of the Flames WNBL squad adding some experience to the outfit in the club’s first venture into the highest calibre league in Australia outside of the WNBL.

The 2018 SEABL season will commence in April.
