Clarke powers Aussies to second in China

Sydney Flames’ Emma Clarke has steered her Australian Gangurrus to second spot at the weekend’s FIBA 3×3 Women’s World Series event in China.

Held in Wuhan from May 6-7, Clarke’s national team opened with wins against Germany (21-16), Mongolia (21-17) and Japan (21-20) – setting up a semi-final showdown with Sichuan Yuanda.

Thanks to three points and four rebounds by Clarke, the Aussies outlasted their Chinese rivals 21-16 to progress to the decider.

In the grand final, they took on undefeated hosts China, who proved too strong – winning 21-13.

The MVP of the competition, China’s Lili Wang, shone in the gold medal match, which was sealed by a ZhiTing Zhang putback layup.

Clarke, who had two points and four rebounds in the final, will now return to play with Perry Lakes in the NBL1 West competition.
