Davidson inducted as WNBL life member

At the 2024-25 WNBL awards ceremony, the competition recognised seven important individuals for their contribution to the sport by honouring them with life membership.
Those seven included NSW product Lauren Jackson (player and administrator), Botond Nagi (media), Mark Quinn (administrator), Donna Turner (volunteer), Flame #184 Alice Kunek (player), Flame #23 Jodie Craig (player and administrator) and John Davidson (volunteer).
Few volunteers have displayed dedication, hard work and passion like the latter Davidson, who has been heavily involved in both the Sydney Flames and Kings.

As well as assisting the Hoops Capital teams, Davidson was the director of the WNBL in 1997 and served in this position for three years before going on to become WNBL chairman in 2005.
When the WNBL commission was formed, Davidson became chairman as well as the league’s representative on the Basketball Australia board from 2005 to 2009.
“I’m very appreciative of the [life membership] recognition, as I’ve loved my time around the WNBL and NBL, in particular the two Sydney clubs,” Davidson said.
“It was special to receive the life membership in front of my wife and sister in Melbourne [as the WNBL awards], as well as being acknowledged by Hoops Capital alongside my daughter at their awards evening.
“Basketball has allowed me to create lifelong friends and memories and I’ve loved every moment of it.
“It’s definitely been a journey and I’m excited to see what’s next for basketball in this country.”
Davidson will be acknowledged at Quaycentre on Thursday during the Flames’ semi-final with Bendigo – with tickets to the fixture still available here.
