Flames alumni Timms to be honoured by Phoenix Mercury

The Phoenix Mercury announced on Wednesday that they would honour the most prominent figures in team history, including Sydney Flames alumni Michele Timms, with a reimagined Ring of Honour on May 18.

The Ring of Honor recognises former players and coaches who have played integral roles in the history of their franchise – with the inaugural intake including Flame #65 Timms, fellow Australian Penny Taylor, Jennifer Gillom, Bridget Pettis and Cheryl Miller.

“From clutch shots to iconic plays to championships, and helping to build the most loyal fan base in sports – we pay homage to the rich history they created,” a Phoenix Mercury statement said.

The half-time ceremony, which will unveil permanent new banners recognising their outstanding contributions, will ensure everyone is reminded of their greatness every day as people look into the rafters where their names and numbers will hang permanently.

This amazing recognition comes on the back of Timms – who was a three-time Olympian (winning two medals) and a WNBA All Star during her career – recently being inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
