FLAMES CLAIM PRE-SEASON WIN

September 25, 2017 | Sydney Flames news

The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames came out on top in their pre-season hit out with the University of Canberra Capitals on Saturday. Despite trailing for majority of the match, the Flames can gain confidence from their fourth quarter fightback, resulting in a 72-69 victory.

The first quarter was tightly contested, with the Flames taking a one point lead into quarter time. The Capitals took control from then on, holding a convincing eleven point lead at the half.

Despite trailing by seven points at three quarter time, Sydney Uni were never out of the game and a solid fourth quarter defensive effort kept the visitors to just eleven points in the final quarter. A lift in defensive intensity also translated to the offensive end, as the Flames chipped in 21 fourth quarter points.

Ally Wilson was dominant offensively and crucial to the Flames comeback, scoring 18 of her 20 points in the second half.

Belinda Snell and Katie Ebzery also stood out for the Flames, with 18 and 15 points respectively.

The Flames have less than a fortnight before they open their season on the road against the Adelaide Lightning on October 6th and the Perth Lynx on October 8th.

Sydney Uni’s first home game, on Saturday October 14th, will see the Flames host the Dandenong Rangers. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see a rematch of last year’s Grand Final.
