Flames fall to Southside in home opener
It wasn’t the result Brydens Sydney Uni Flames were hoping for, falling to the visiting Southside Flyers, 85-72 in their home opener.
The final scoreline did not reflect the contest with the Flames conceding 10 unanswered points in the final quarter to extend the deficit to 13.
At the first break, things were tied up at 22-all, and Sydney were only three points down at three quarter time, however Southside took advantage of their shooting opportunities in the final period to go home with the win.
While a new side, Southside looked awfully familar with Flames championship winning coach, Cheryl Chambers and captain, Belinda Snell among the coaching staff, not to mention former Flame, Leilani Mitchell who put on a show with 14 points and 10 assists.
For the Flames, Alice Kunek played big minutes and top scored with 17 points, while Jess Kuster notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. View the full box score here.
The Flames will be looking ahead to next Sunday’s game against the University of Canberra Capitals where they will celebrate their joint Indigenous Round. Purchase your tickets here.
