Flames look to douse Fire
The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames are ready for the challenge, as they head into their Round 3 clash with the Townsville Fire at Townsville Stadium tonight. Despite dropping their first game of the 2017/18 season, the Flames now hold a 2-1 record after bouncing back with two hard fought wins over the Perth Lynx and the Dandenong Rangers. The Flames will have their work cut out as their opponents have had a perfect start to the season. The Fire sit on top of the table yet to record a loss.
The Flames are proving a handful in all positions across the court with each of their starters averaging in double figures led by Belinda Snell and Alex Wilson with 16 points per game and Katie-Rae Ebzery not far behind chipping in 15. Along with being scoring threats, both Asia Taylor (14.5ppg, 10 reb) and Jen Hamson (14.5 ppg and 8.5 reb) have been hitting the boards hard, which they will need to focus on again this upcoming game.
The biggest task for the visiting side will be to nullify the production of posts, Suzy Batkovic and Cayla George. Over the first two games George has been dominant inside averaging a double-double with 15.5 points and 15 rebounds, with Batkovic adding 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds.
Always a great battle, there will be no love lost between the two teams tonight. The Fire will be looking for revenge, after the Flames knocked them out of contention for a third consecutive WNBL championship. This semi-final rematch will be a game not to miss!
