Flames sign rising star Deas to one-year contract
The Sydney Flames are thrilled to announce they’ve signed one of the country’s top rising talents Bonnie Deas to a one-year deal.
The Frankston product, who joins the Hoops Capital club as an amateur player, becomes the ninth player locked into Guy Molloy’s roster for WNBL25.
She joins Cayla George, Lauren Nicholson, Shaneice Swain, Didi Richards, Celeste Taylor, Emma Clarke, Mikaela Ruef and Sherrie Calleia on the squad for the fast-approaching WNBL campaign.

“After speaking and enjoying the conversations I had with Guy, I knew Sydney was the perfect next place for my career,” said Deas, who is in her second year at the Centre of Excellence.
“I believe under Guy and Renae – who I played under at the under 18 Asia Cup earlier this year while representing Australia – I can improve each and every day, to become the best player I can before hopefully going to college in 2025.
“I’m not just excited to work with the coaches but also players like Loz Nicholson, who is a great guard that I can’t wait to learn from and play against on a daily basis.”

Deas, 18, who has represented both Victoria and Australia at a junior level, has also earmarked parts of her game she wants to develop during her game.
“While at the Flames, I definitely would like to work on my IQ, being a point guard and my shooting consistency,” said Deas, who explained that the whole Hoops Capital program, alongside the Kings, also played a part in her joining the club.
“Improving those aspects of my game will put me in the best positions to succeed this season with the Flames, next year at college and for the rest of my playing career.”
Coach Molloy, who is entering his second year in the harbour city, is excited to have a player of Deas’ calibre at the Flames.
“Bonnie is a great kid, who really impressed me with her performances at the Asia Cup with the Gems – being that clever, glue athlete who played well beyond her years on offence while being the superior individual on defence,” Molloy said.
FLAMES SIGN WNBA TALENT TAYLOR TO ONE-YEAR DEAL
“So when the chance to recruit her came up, she became a high priority for us, as I believe she can contribute right away at a WNBL level.
“She has all the traits that we want in this program and its culture, being very personal with a high work rate.
“Her and the other three new signings, along with our returning players, all fit the character of player we want at the club, as we look to leverage the success on year one of this rebuilding program into an even more successful 2024-25 season.”
