Flames snatch victory over Adelaide

December 8, 2019 | Sydney Flames news

It was a team performance that got Brydens Sydney Uni Flames over the line against Adelaide, recording a critical 81-69 win over the Lightning at Qudos Bank Arena.

A slow start and shooting woos meant the Flames trailed at the first and main break, however a strong 24-point third term put the home side in front for much of the second half.

Thanks to strong bouts of defense and a string of scoring runs, the visitors were unable to match Sydney’s intensity on both sides of the court, copping their fifth loss of the season.

For the Flames, Colleen Planeta was outstanding with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Alice Kunek contributed 21 points, followed by Jess Kuster with 14.

The game was a great celebration of women’s basketball, partnering with the Sydney Kings for the teams’ annual double header and also donning orange jerseys to bring global attention to the issue of violence against women and girls for the WNBL’s  ‘Orange the World’ round. See some great photos from the clash courtesy of Geoff Tripp here.

Sydney will spend the next two rounds on the road, travelling north to face off against Townsville next weekend, before heading to Victoria for games against Bendigo and Southside.

The Flames will return home on Sunday, 29 December for Family Round against Adelaide, tip-off at 5pm. Purchase your tickets here.
