Flames support Fighting Period Poverty Round
This coming round, the Sydney Flames and the other seven WNBL sides will be taking part in Fighting Period Poverty Round – with donations going to Share The Dignity.
As part of the initiative, the Flames will be setting up bins at Qudos Bank Arena during their double-header fixture against Bendigo, for fans got donate period products into.
Share the Dignity founder Rochelle Courtenay is extremely excited to have the WNBL team up with her organisation this season.
“To have the WNBL on board to end period poverty is a dream come true,” Courtenay said.
“The players are such inspiring role models so it has been fantastic to see them get involved in our initiatives like It’s in the Bag and talk about periods.
“It is important for everyone young and old to learn about periods and the realities of period poverty, and to hear it from your favourite basketball player is an incredible step forward.”

“The funds raised will go towards our Dignity Vending Machines,” Courtenay said.
“We believe dignified access to period products is essential so install machines that dispense free pads and tampons in charities, community hubs, Aboriginal Medical Services and hospitals right around Australia.
“I am so grateful that the money raised will help us install a new Dignity Vending Machine and keep it running to ensure no one has to use socks, toilet paper or newspaper for their period.”
Courtenay went on to say how big of an impact this initiative will make moving forward.
“Conversation is crucial to ending the shame and stigma around periods,” she said.
“By having a round focused on ending period poverty we are putting a spotlight on not only period poverty and the realities many people face across Australia, but we are also talking about periods and normalising them which is an incredibly important part of the journey.
“I cannot wait to see what we can accomplish together in the period poverty space moving forward.”
