While to many rising stars of the hardwood, college basketball has always been a goal but not for the Frankston product, who only locked on that dream in 2023.
“Playing college basketball wasn’t always a dream of mine, but that changed last year,” said the Centre of Excellence graduate.
“After competing in Atlanta at the NBA Global Academy Games in 2023, I gained a real sense of what basketball in America is like, and it got me really excited.
“Following that, I had the chance to attend the BWB Global Camp in Phoenix, Arizona, where I connected with numerous colleges.
“I’m genuinely excited about the opportunity to compete in the United States and play alongside some of the best talent.”
Before she heads off to play for the Razorbacks, Deas will play for the Hoops Capital side during her debut WNBL season, which the 18-year-old believes will be the perfect preparation for her next step in the US.
“I chose the Flames because I believe it offers the best environment for my development, following on from everything I have learned during my time CoE, before heading to the US,” the guard said.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Guy [Molloy] over the next six months; his coaching expertise and attention to detail will significantly enhance my game.
“Additionally, training alongside some of the best players in Australia every day is an opportunity I’m eager to embrace and make the most of.”
