Calleia was contracted as a development player for the Sydney Flames during the WNBL19 season but unfortunately missed the season due to injury.

Calleia was rewarded with her professional debut as a development player for the Sydney Flames in WNBL20 hub season, and as she continued to develop and excel her basketball talents, she was offered a one-year extension as a development player for the Flames the following year.

She signed a one-year deal with the Canberra Capitals in the 2022/23 WNBL season, then with the Melbourne Boomers the following season.

“I am most excited to play back at home in front of family and friends, and of course the chance to continue growing as a person, player and teammate under the coaching and high-performance staff at the Flames!”, Calleia said.

“I bring a lot of positive energy, hard work and passion on and off the court, and I can’t wait to reconnect with former teammates and fans, as well as meet all who are new to me in my next chapter along my journey here back in Sydney.”

Coach Guy Molloy was pleased with the recruitment of Calleia for the upcoming WNBL25 season.

“Sherrie Calleia is a Sydney native who in my opinion, is one the best NBL1 point guards in Australia, providing us with tremendous depth ahead of the season”, Molloy said.

“We’re really trying to promote our Sydney Flames brand as a pathway opportunity, and to remain strong in our commitment which was one attractive part about recruiting Sherrie.

“In regard to her basketball, she was a DP at the Flames and has now become a very accomplished player in the NBL1 competition.”

Calleia now joins Celeste Taylor, Cayla George, Emma Clarke, Lauren Nicholson and Shaniece Swain ahead of the WNBL25 season.
