Game Preview: Flames v Lighting at Brydens Stadium

February 24, 2022 | Sydney Flames news

The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames are back in action this week at Brydens Stadium as they take on the Adelaide Lightning on Saturday, February 26 at 7.30 pm.

The Flames last saw Adelaide at Brydens Stadium back in January, where the Lightning got the better of the Flames.

“There’s a lot to learn from this game,” Flames star Kiera Rowe said after that first encounter.

“We have to take our game to a whole other level. Starting with the intensity really, communication and take it back to the start.”

The Lightning’s defence was the biggest concern for the Flames in our last match-up. They held the Flames to 25 percent from the field.

Despite the poor shooting, the Flames rebounded well and had some good defensive stretches.

Going into this game making those shots drop will be the number one priority. The Flames have played seven games since the last match against the Lightning and since then the Flames have rebuilt their offence and their defence has improved.

Keely Froling is averaging 22.6 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game in her past three games and Kalani Purcell has been one of the best defenders in the WNBL this season.

Along with Shyla Heal, the Lightning’s Alanna Smith and Steph Talbot played in Serbia for the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in early February. Both teams missed their stars in recent games but all three are back in action and it should be a great Opals clash.

Adelaide’s imports, Kylee Shook and Kiana Williams, are capable of going off on any night too, so the Flames defence will have their hands full. This should be a red-hot encounter between the Flames and the Lightning.

The Flames will take on the Adelaide Lightning at home, Brydens Stadium on Saturday, February 26 at 7.30pm. Get your tickets here.
