George etches name further into WNBL record books

Another game, another record for reigning WNBL MVP Cayla George.
Just weeks after becoming the competition’s all-time leading rebounder, George moved into fourth spot on the all-time scorers list – moving past Flames alumni Belinda Snell (4770 points) during Friday’s round 10 contest with Adelaide.
“It [moving into fourth] is a pretty cool thing but it reminds me that I’ve been around for a while,” said George – who fittingly is a South Australian product.
“I have so much love and respect for Snelly, so to be up there with names like hers and other absolute legends is something I don’t take lightly.”

Following that match-up with the Lightning, which saw George finish with 18 points, 13 boards, six dimes, two blocks and two steals, Flame #215 admits she is starting to feel more comfortable at the Hoops Capital club.
“I do feel more settled in the Flames colours and it was always going to take a bit of time,” she said.
“To come in and elevate the culture and winning mindset isn’t an overnight fix but we are heading in the right direction as a club.”
Despite that huge stat line, which now sees George on 4,781 career points, the Flames lost by seven to the hosts.
But the Australian Opal said her team has learnt from it, ahead of Sunday’s match-up with Melbourne.
“The fourth quarter wasn’t great for us,” the WNBA champion with the Las Vegas Aces said.
“Adelaide found momentum and were shooting at a decent clip from the three most of the game.
“Defensively we didn’t make the game uncomfortable enough for them.
“The beauty of this game is we have a really quick turnaround against Boomers.
“I think when we play the Flames way consistently, we will find success.”
Sunday’s fixture against George’s former team tips off at 1.15pm AEDT at Qudos Bank Arena and will be followed by the Sydney Kings’ clash with Brisbane – with tickets available here.
