George reflects on amazing Taiwan experience with Tigers

May 14, 2024 | Sydney Flames news

The Taiwanese journey of Flames’ Cayla George has resulted in more silverware for the superstar Australian basketballer.

At the weekend, Flame #216 George steered her Cathay Life Tigers to the 2024 WSBL championship, while taking out the Finals MVP award.

“Cathay Life has such a rich history of winning and has won a lot in the last 20 years,” George said.

“To be able to continue that legacy of winning for the club here has been pretty special.

“Individual awards are great, but my teammates here have been amazing.

“Even though not all of them speak a lot of English, I have had great translators to help.

“They have all accepted me quickly and we were able to trust each other on court to find success in such a short amount of time.”

As special as the time on the court was for George, she loved the time off it with her husband Kailou and daughter Pearl just as much.

“Taiwan has been incredible – a beautiful country with super generous people,” the Australian Opal said.

“This game is such a beautiful thing when I can meet lovely humans from all over the world.

“Pearl has more aunties and we have this experience to share together as a family.”

George is now on her way home to Australia, as she shifts her attention to the Opals’ 2024 Paris Olympic Games campaign.

“I am so happy that I decided to say yes to this opportunity,” she said.

“I wanted to play games and I most certainly did.

“With three games a week for seven weeks and then finals, I am feeling super fit and ready to tackle these Opals games coming up for Paris preparation.”
