Gorman believes Pride Round is step in right direction
Sydney Flames coach Shelley Gorman has long been an advocate of the LGBTQ community and believes this Sunday’s Pride Round double-header at Qudos Bank Arena is a great step in the right direction to celebrate the sports’ inclusion and diversity.
“Any awareness for the LGBTQ community is positive, so initiatives like Pride Round are really exciting for us,” Gorman said in her Blazing The Trail episode.
In that episode, which went live on Friday, January 27, Gorman went on to explain the difficulties she and other members of the LGBTQ community go through when they are ‘coming out’.

“One of the hardest things about it [coming out] is the shame and guilt around it and I believe that’s what really needs to change,” the former Australian Opal said.
“For me, when I came out a long time ago, it was a pretty difficult time [in my life].
“[Since then] things have changed and progress has been made but the fact that people still have to ‘come out’ and tell people who we love is crazy.”
