Kiera Rowe joins the Flames
The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames are excited to announce the signing of young star Kiera Rowe on a 1-year deal.
At 183cm, the athletic guard joins Sydney after two seasons with the Dandenong Rangers, before spending a year with last season’s Grand Final runners-up, the Southside Flyers.
A junior with Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence, Rowe represented Australia at FIBA events from 2015 to 2017, including becoming a World Champion after winning the 2016 FIBA Under-17 World Championships with her Australian Sapphire teammates.
She also reunites with fellow Victorian and new Flames recruit Anneli Maley who she suited up alongside at the Under-19 World Championships in 2017, and spent last season with at the Flyers.
Flames Head Coach Katrina Hibbert was thrilled to be welcoming Kiera into the Flames line-up for the upcoming WNBL season.
“I was fortunate enough to coach Kiera at the U20 Australian Championships in 2018 where I grew to respect her work ethic and leadership within the group”.
“She brings versatility, an eagerness to learn and grow as a basketballer player, and she has a competitive drive to win. I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to coach Kiera again and continue to help develop her at the WNBL level” Hibbert shared.
Currently residing in Melbourne, Rowe had signed with the Frankston Blues for the 2020 NBL1 season prior to the season being cancelled due to COVID-19. She is looking forward to continuing her WNBL career at the new-look-Flames.
“I am very excited to join the Flames and cannot wait to start this next chapter in my basketball journey” Rowe said.
“I’m looking forward to contributing to the team both on and off the court, and helping to shape the strong culture that Katrina is developing”.
Rowe joins Funda Nakkasoglu, Alison Schwagmeyer, Lauren Mansfield, Anneli Maley and Lauren Scherf as contracted players for the upcoming WNBL season which is set to tip-off on November 20. More player announcements will be announced over the coming weeks.
