McSpadden re-signs with Cyclones for NBL1 North season

December 6, 2023 | Sydney Flames news

Sydney Flames’ Lara McSpadden has committed to the Rockhampton Cyclones for the 2024 NBL1 North season, which will mark her fourth year with the club.

The 6 ft 5-inch centre had a huge year in 2023, averaging 18 pts, 12 rebounds and shot the ball at 53 per cent from the field.

“After last year’s wonderful season, finishing second, it was a priority for the program to try and have our core group return and there is no bigger piece to our group than Lara,” Rockhampton general manager Wade Rebetzke said.

“It was a must for us to retain Lara to continue to build on the 2023 season for the Cyclones.

“She is a leader both on and off the floor for the Cyclones and we are so happy that she is returning to Rockhampton for the 2024 season.”

Coach Drew Fenton echoed Rebetzke’s thoughts, saying how important the Newcastle product is to their club.

“Lara is one of the best Australian bigs in the NBL1 and we are excited to have her return. Lara has been the driving force behind building the Cyclones profile over the last three years and this will continue into 2024,” Fenton said,

“She is the fittest and strongest I have ever seen her, and I can’t wait to see Lara take her game to the next level in 2024. Lara is our anchor defensively and she took her leadership to a new level in 2023, which set the platform for future Cyclones players to follow her lead.”

“I’m looking forward to being back to go one better in 2024.”
