Molloy takes plenty of positives away from Townsville trip

Sydney Flames head coach Guy Molloy believes his team has taken plenty away from their two recent closed-door games with the Fire in Townsville.

At the weekend, the two WNBL rivals locked horns in a pair of pre-season practice games at Townsville Entertainment Centre, to finalise preparations for the fast-approaching 2024-25 campaign.

“The two games in Townsville were gold and I believe we achieved more in them than we could have in a week of training,” Molloy said.

“You never really have a benchmark of how you’re travelling until you play against someone else and now we have an idea of what we need to work on ahead of game one against Canberra.

“While we started a little nervous in the first game, which saw some of our foundation attributes slip a little, we improved on that as the two matches played out – as we got into our flow and really started to develop some cohesion and chemistry as a team.

“As such as a young team, this extra time on the court, as well as off it, is invaluable for us, as we look to have a really successful season and play a Flames brand of basketball that our fans can be proud of.”

The Hoops Capital side tips off their WNBL25 season with their home opener against Canberra on Sunday, November 3.

This fixture, part of the Hoops Capital club’s first double-header of 2024-25 alongside the Kings’ match with Tasmania, tips off at 1.45pm AEDT at Qudos Bank Arena – with tickets still available here.
