Molloy’s Flames look to continue momentum against Flyers

November 7, 2024 | Sydney Flames news

The Sydney Flames will look to make it two wins on the trot to open the season on Saturday when they travel to Melbourne to battle the Southside Flyers.

Guy Molloy’s side heads into the round two fixture at the State Basketball Centre full of confidence, following their emphatic defeat of the UC Capitals on Sunday.

“That win gave everyone a huge shot in the arm, not only on the training court but also in the belief of the system we’re trying to run as a group,” Molloy said.

“We’ve taken a lot away from that win, in terms of what worked well and what didn’t play out as well as we’d hoped, which will no doubt help us moving forward.”

gave the whole group and practice shot in the arm, a little bit shorter turnaround,

Molloy, who is in his second year with the Hoops Capital club, acknowledges the challenge that awaits his side in the reigning champions.

“Obviously, Southside is coming into this on the back of a loss in Perth and a short turnaround against Geelong, but we know they’re going to be tough – especially on their home court,” he said.

“They have a vastly experienced team, with plenty of players who have had success in this competition and are dangerous on the court.

“While we don’t have that, we have plenty of youth and energy, which we will lean into, as we try and establish the pillars of our team and what we stand for as a group.

“It’s a big challenge for our team but if we play to our strengths, I have complete confidence in this group that we can get the job done.”
