Molloy’s Flames poised to bounce back against Lynx

November 22, 2024 | Sydney Flames news

The Sydney Flames will be looking for a swift rebound when they take on the Perth Lynx on Saturday, November 23 at Bendat Basketball Stadium.

The Hoops Capital side head into the Indigenous Round fixture with a 1-3 record, including two recent losses to Bendigo and Adelaide.

But coach Guy Molloy is confident his group has learnt from those defeats and is ready to respond.

“While we’ve taken thing away from Wednesday’s loss in Adelaide, we’ve tried to shake it off and move on as quickly as possible,” Molloy said.

“Once again, our own mistakes hurt us – previously it had been turnovers and this time it was missed shots.

“In saying that, there were some positives to take away from that game, including the play of Mikaela [Ruef] and Emma [Clarke].

“It was great for Mikaela to bounce back the way she did and see the ball go through the hoop, while also being really strong on the glass.

“While Emma didn’t score as much, she found other ways to contribute, which was really pleasing, including defending [Steph] Talbot exceptionally and rebounding well.”

Looking ahead, the 3-1 Lynx present an interesting challenge for Molloy’s harbour city side.

“Perth is obviously a dangerous offensive team but I believe we match up well against them, which is what my focus is on,” he said.

“We, first and foremost, need to go back to Flames basketball, because we’ve shown how effective it can be if everyone is locked in and on the same page.

“If we do that, and set a tone on both ends of the court, we can worry about making adjustments after that.

“Our combinations are still a work in progress but I can see we’re getting better each and every day we’re together, so I’m confident we can return to the winner’s circle.”
