Molloy’s Flames ready to take down Lynx

The Sydney Flames answered their critics in a big way on Saturday, chalking up their largest victory of WNBL25.

Now coach Guy Molloy is expecting an even stronger performance this Saturday when they host the second-placed Perth Lynx at Quaycentre.

“After those two road losses [to Adelaide and Perth], to the team’s credit, everyone bounced back really well and came to training with real intent, which was evident in Saturday’s win,” Molloy said.

“Everyone was keen to respond with our backs against the wall, so the string result has given everyone a good shot of confidence.

“[To be honest] the signs have been there the past few weeks, so to see our work translate into a win like that was encouraging.

“It’s exciting to get rewards like that and it’s now on us to do it again on Saturday, against one of the competition’s pace-setters.

“If we bring the same energy and focus to the game on Saturday, it will put us in a strong position.”

While the Lynx got the better of the Hoops Capital side in round four, Molloy’s side has grown a lot since then.

“Our younger players have taken their games to new levels and our imports are more acclimatised to this league since that Perth game,” Molloy said.

“That, combined with the fact that we were probably more responsible for our own demise in that first game, thanks to our turnovers, gives me confidence going into Saturday.

“If we produce a consistent inside/out game on offence, backed with the confidence we’re playing with now and great home fans at Quaycentre, it give us a great chance to secure our third win of the season.”
