Nicholson wins second straight NBL1 East Defensive Player of the Year award
Sydney Flames’ Lauren Nicholson has been acknowledged for her amazing NBL1 East season by taking out her second straight Defensive Player of the Year award.
Announced on Monday night, the Sutherland Shark edged out fellow nominees Norths’ Emily Seebohm, Canberra’s Lizzy Tonks, Manly-Warringah’s Antonia Henderson and Newcastle’s Mykea Gray for the prize.
Nicholson, who is averaging 29.50 points, seven rebounds and 6.67 assists per game with the Sharks in 2023, is also in contention for the MVP award, be shortlisted against Norths’ Emily Simons, Newcastle’s Nicole Munger, Manly-Warringah’s Alex Delaney and Albury-Wodonga’s Mikayla Pivec.

The other Flame up for an award is Jada Crawshaw, who was nominated for the Young Player of the Year alongside Albury’s Ashley Hannah, Centre of Excellence’s Jayda Clark, Manly’s Felicity Henderson and Norths’ Carla Pitman.
In other Hoops Capital news, Kings’ NBL Next Star Alex Toohey, who played for the Centre of Excellence, has been nominated for both the men’s MVP and Young Player for the Year award.
