Nicholson’s Flames zero in on Capitals clean-sweep
The Sydney Flames will head into their round 12 clash with Canberra on Friday full of confidence following Wednesday’s 23-point demolition of Adelaide.
Flame #132 Lauren Nicholson outlined how important their last-up victory was, as they chase an all-important top-four spot.
“Wednesday was a huge win for us,” Nicholson said.
“It’s the start of a three-game series before the break that are all must-win for us.
“We want to make the finals so there is no room to drop any games.”
Nicholson was a big part of that win, tallying her 14th double-digit effort of WNBL24 – seeing her currently sit in fourth on the competition’s top scorers with 16.3 per game.
“I’m happy with the way I’m playing,” the Sutherland product said.
“I think being home and surrounded by good people has made it really enjoyable.
“I am still trying to get better every game and do everything I can to help our team get to the finals.”

That finals goal is in their own hands, starting with the Hoops Capital side’s match-up with Canberra – a side they defeated twice already this campaign.
“This team [Canberra] have the ability to go on runs and have shown they can beat any team in the league,” said Nicholson, whose side now have nine wins to their name, the highest tally by a Flames team since 2017-18 (when they went 14-7).
“It’s important we are locked in for a full 40 minutes, especially at the defensive end.
“This game is an important stepping stone for us to make finals.
“We want to play well and have confidence leading into the back end of the season.”
Tickets for this rivalry clash, tipping of at 6.45pm AEDT at Quaycentre on Friday, are still available here.
