OFF SEASON FLAMES WRAP

The Flames are well represented around the world this month with a number of players, along with head coach Cheryl Chambers, away on national team duties Coach Chambers, Belinda Snell and Katie-Rae Ebzery have just landed in Bengaluru, India with the Australian Opals for the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup. The tournament begins on July 23, with finals being played on July 29. Meanwhile, Lara McSpadden is in Italy with the Australian Gems, ahead of the FIBA U/19 World Cup from July 22-30. Tahlia Tupaea, Shanae Greaves, Lara McSpadden, Susannah Walmsley and Sarah Graham are all playing for the Sydney Uni Sparks in the team’s inaugural SEABL season. Sitting at 3rd in the Eastern conference, they are looking to finish the season strong, in the hopes of booking a place in finals. Alex Wilson is dominating the South Australian Premier league, leading the  Eastern Mavericks, averaging 27 points and 11.4 rebounds for the season so far. In the West, Carly Boag has been having an outstanding season with Mandurah Magic in the Western Australia State Basketball League. She has been named player of the week twice and is leading her team with 19 points and 12.7 rebounds.
