Opals and Flames star Shyla Heal sidelined by injury
The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames will be without Opals and star point guard Shyla Heal for Saturday’s clash against the Perth Lynx in Perth.
Heal injured her ankle in training on Thursday and did not travel with the team.
“Shyla landed on a team-mates foot and rolled her ankle at practice yesterday,” Flames coach and Shyla’s father Shane Heal told Flames media.
“We are waiting on MRI results to determine how long Shyla will be on the sidelines.”
After an injury ravaged season, the Flames will play all four of the team’s development players in the game against the top-of-the-table Lynx. Two of the development players will be likely starters.
“We continue to invest in the kids and give them valuable court time,” coach Heal said.
To add to the Flames woes, guard Funda Nakkasoglu was already ruled out with a broken nose and concussion protocols from last weekend’s clash with Adelaide. It’s hoped Funda will be back for next week’s road double.
Co-captain Lauren Mansfield also remains on the sidelines with a calf injury.
