Paris Olympics a ‘dream come true’ for Flames announcer Goodchild

November 11, 2024 | Sydney Flames news

The Sydney Flames will have more Olympic and Paralympic Games experience during their home game days in WNBL25 after announcer Briana Goodchild recently returned from Paris 2024.

Goodchild, who has been working with the Hoops Capital club for three seasons, has the honour of working as a bilingual MC for 3×3 basketball, wheelchair basketball and breaking – which has been a goal for the 29-year-old for some time.

“It was a life goal of mine to present at the Olympics and I have to say, it was everything I could have dreamed of and more,” said Goodchild, who explained this opportunity came about through her work MC-ing sporting events here in Australia, like Flames basketball.

“I feel very blessed to have been a part of the action, both on the mic but also on the big screen.

“Being my first time working as a bilingual MC speaking both French and English, it was hands down the most challenging yet fulfilling gig I’ve done to date.

“Switching between languages constantly was a mental workout.

“Having had the opportunity to work on the other side of the world in a different language and culture has certainly expanded my skills – and now I know how to fire up a crowd from all over the world… and in French – allez les bleus! Ici c’est… Paris!”

Upon reflecting on this amazing experience, Goodchild admitted there were multiple highlights.

“The Games: the world-class atmosphere, the breath-taking Parisienne venues, the international crowds, and witnessing the best in the world create sporting history,” she said.

“Oh, and working while LeBron James and Snoop Dog were in the crowd was pretty cool, too!

“It was sheer magic and I have memories I will cherish for a lifetime.”

Now that she’s back in the Hoops Capital, Goodchild is excited to use her new experiences to take Flames home games to the next level in WNBL25.

“Coming off the Olympics and Paralympics, my love for sport and fans is overflowing,” said Goodchild.

“I’ve got a few new tricks in my MCing bag and I couldn’t be more excited to have fun with the Flames fans this season.
