Perth out-muscle Sydney in Friday night showdown

The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames were unable to secure their third straight home victory as Perth Lynx proved too strong in a disappointing 82-91 defeat.

It’s the third time the Lynx have beaten their opposition this season and it’s their first win on the road after a luckless first half of the season.

Having lost convincingly in their previous two meetings, the Flames stepped it up a notch in front of their home fans and fought till the death, unable to convert their solid defence into points in the final quarter.

A high-scoring first half saw the Flames trail by five points at the break, however it was the third quarter that widened the margin as Perth ran out to a 10-point lead that became out of reach.

Colleen Planeta (16 points) and Ally Wilson (16 points) topped the scorers sheet for the Flames, while centre Lauren Scherf played one of her best games of the season with 14 points on 6-9 shooting and five rebounds.

Jess Kuster (13 points), Alice Kunek (10 points) and Shanae Greaves (8 points) also chipped in with some solid efforts.

It was former Flame Kate Ebrezy who stole the show with 20 points as she controlled the game effortlessly, while Alison Schwagmeyer-Belger claimed the most points with 25.

The Flames head to Qudos Bank Arena for their next home game in a double-header with the Sydney Kings, hosting Adelaide Lightning. Purchase tickets here.
