Richards’ Flames zero in fourth straight in Adelaide

January 2, 2024 | Sydney Flames news

The Sydney Flames are officially one of the hottest teams in the WNBL right now, after registering three straight wins against Melbourne, Bendigo and Townsville respectively.

A big part of that streak has been the exceptional play of import Didi Richards, who was named in the WNBL Team of Round Nine on Tuesday.

“I’ve been feeling great out there [on the court]” Richards said.

“[Now that I’ve been here for a while] it’s always easier to know what’s expected of you day and night, and I think Guy [Molloy] has been really direct on what he expects from me every day.

“My body has definitely been an uphill battle [due to previous injuries], but the medical team here has done an amazing job with my rehabbing and helping me stay patient and really diligent in my work-ons.”

The most recent victory, against the reigning champions and current league-leaders Townsville, has given the harbour city belief they can defeat any one in this competition.

“The win was a great one for us to build off of, to say the least,” Flame #216 said.

“Townsville is a great team with a lot of weapons, so for us to pull that out I think says a lot about the depth of our team and our ability to grind out tough wins together.”

The Hoops Capital side now heads to Adelaide in search of their fourth straight victory.

“Adelaide is also a great team with some key players,” the former New York Liberty wing said.

“With the last game being played down to the wire, I think we just stick to our principles defensively and offensively.

“[If we] keep them controlled in transition, stay poise when they go on their runs, [I’m sure] we’ll be fine.”
