Rowe recognised for exceptional defensive season
The WNBL23 season has been one of constant change for the Sydney Flames.
But one constant has been the incredible play of forward Kiera Rowe, especially on the defensive end.
So it came as no surprise when the 24-year-old was named the club’s Defensive Player of the Year winner at Tuesday’s Hoops Capital awards night.

“Winning the Defensive Player of the Year award is really special,” said Rowe, who this season brought up her 100th WNBL game.
“I’ve always worked really hard and taken a lot of pride in my defence so this award means a lot.
“Throughout the WNBL23 season, I think I’ve been able to take my defence to another level.
“I’ve had to match up on a huge range of talented players in training and games, some of them much bigger and stronger than me, so this has really pushed me to become a much smarter defender.”
Rowe thoroughly enjoyed the event at The Waterview, which marked the first-ever combined Sydney Flames and Kings awards night.
“The first combined Kings and Flames awards night was amazing,” the Victorian product said.

“Being able to engage with sponsors and members, as well as the staff and players from both teams was really awesome.
“And of course, the comedy from Tahir and Rob was a great addition to the night.”
Rowe and her Flames return to the hardwood on Friday night, taking on Adelaide as part of their inaugural Pink Game – with tickets to the 7pm AEDT Quaycentre clash still available here.
