Swain wins NBL1 South Women’s Youth Player of the Year award
Sydney Flames’ Shaneice Swain was acknowledged for her exceptional 2024 NBL1 South season at the competition’s annual awards night on Friday.
Flame #224 took out the competition’s Women’s Youth Player of the Year award, after averaging 23.05 points, 6.27 rebounds, 3.95 assists, 3.32 triples and 2.64 steals per game during her first season with Geelong.

The Hoops Capital guard edged out fellow finalists Dallas Loughride (Dandenong), Gemma Potter (Diamond Valley), Manuela Puoch (Dandenong) and Erin Riley (Eltham) for the prize.

Swain’s strong season also saw her nominated as one of the 10 finalists (alongside Flame #218 Paige Bradley) for the NBL1 South MVP award, which Keilor’s Isabelle Bourne ultimately took out.
Other former Hoops Capital athletes to be shortlisted for awards included Flame #193 Kiera Rowe (Women’s Defensive Player of the Year), Flame#203 Rebecca Pizzey (Women’s Defensive Player of the Year) and King #219 Angus Glover (Men’s MVP) – while Flame #100 Kelly Wilson took out the Women’s Golden Hands award.
