It’s exciting times ahead for women’s sport in Australia and the WNBL is leading the charge.

The Official Season Launch of the WNBL was held in Melbourne yesterday, in conjunction with the release of the FOX Sports broadcast schedule for 2017/18.

 “This is the beginning of what promises to be an electrifying new era for Women’s Basketball in Australia and everyone at the Flames are energised to embrace the future possibilities.” Flames General Manager, Karen Dalton said.

The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames are bringing back majority of the 2016/2017 Championship winning roster, including 3-time Olympian Belinda Snell, recent World Uni Games recipient Alex Wilson and US imports Asia Taylor and Jen Hamson. The Flames also welcome back former Flame and current Australian Opal Katie Rae Ebzery.

The Flames will prepare for the fast approaching season when they take on the Fujitsu Red Wave, Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence on Friday 15th September at 4pm and the University of Canberra Capitals on Saturday 23rd September at 7pm.

The 2017/18 WNBL season, begins on Thursday, October 5, and is shortened to a three-month regular season with teams playing 21 games across 13 rounds before the finals are held in January.

The team will kick-off their 2017/18 season on Fri Oct 6th in Adelaide. Their first home game will come in Round 2 against the Dandenong Rangers in a replay of last year’s Grand Final.
