The future of women’s basketball in Australia looks bright, as the Australian Uniroos claimed gold at the World Uni Games in Chinese Taipei. After a strong first three quarters, the Uniroos were able to hold off a tough Japanese outfit to claim an 85-78 victory.
Brydens Sydney Uni Flames playmaker, Alex Wilson, capped off an outstanding tournament, finishing with 17 points and 4 assists in the gold medal match.
Darcee Garbin (30 points, 10 rebounds) and Lauren Sherf (18points, 12 rebounds) also put together strong performances, both finishing with a double-double in the Championship match.

The Emerging Opals had an impressive run in the finals, with a stunning upset win over the USA in a tightly contested quarter-final. Next, they came up against host nation Chinese Taipei in the semi-final. Cool under pressure, the emerging Opals took a 79-74 victory to book their place in the gold medal game.
