WNBL tweaks Flames’ draw for WNBL24 season
With the start of the 2023-24 season upon us, the WNBL has made two changes to the Sydney Flames’ on-court schedule.
The below changes were made to allow the Australian Opals athletes and coaches, as well as other international athletes from New Zealand, Canada and Japan, the ability to travel to various destinations around the world in February, to attend their respective FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in February.
Given the importance of the tournaments, and not wanting to compromise the quality of the games and competition in the WNBL, the league and clubs collectively agreed to move games from round 14 up into the back end of round 13.
Therefore, instead of playing the Canberra Capitals at the National Convention Centre on Wednesday, January 31 in round 14, the Hoops Capital side will now take on their local rivals on Friday, December 8 (round six) from 7pm AEDT at the same venue.
The other major change for the harbour city is one of their fixtures against the Adelaide Lightning.
Originally scheduled to play the South Australians on Saturday, February 3 in round 14, the Flames will now host them at Quaycentre from 7pm AEDT on Wednesday, January 17 (round 12).
Tickets for this game will be on sale from Monday at 10am with partial members able to redeem from 2pm Friday.
The Flames’ final game of the season on Sunday, February 18 will go on sale in the coming weeks.
The Flames tip off their season on Friday, November 3 in Perth before playing their first home game against Melbourne on November 12, as part of a Hoops Capital double-header at Qudos Bank Arena – with tickets available here.
