Aleita and Evonne, The Heart of the Townsville Fire Merchandise Stand

May 23, 2024 | Townsville Fire news

In the bustling energy of Townsville Fire home games, where fans gather to support their favourite team, two volunteers have become essential assets: Aleita and Evonne. For the past five years, these dedicated individuals have run the merchandise stand, ensuring fans can proudly display their team spirit. As we celebrate National Volunteers Week, we honour Aleita (pictured) and Evonne’s commitment and the vibrant enthusiasm they bring to every game.

Aleita and Evonne’s journey with the Townsville Fire began in 2020 when they first volunteered to manage the team’s merchandise stand. Their shared love for basketball and their desire to contribute to the community made them perfect candidates for the role. Little did they know that their dedication would make them beloved figures among Townsville Fire fans.

Aleita started volunteering because her firm is involved with the Club and her boss was the Chair, knowing it was the only not for profit Club in the WNBL, Aleita wanted to roll up her sleeves up and be part of the team.

“What keeps me coming back is the Club staff, volunteers, players and fans – everyone plays an integral part in the success and I love interacting with the fans.” Said Aleita.

“Highlight moments have been when in 2019 Fire named Team of the Decade, 2023/24 season 16 straight wins and back-to-back championships.” Said Aleita.

Aleita and Evonne are responsible for much more than just selling team gear. They create an engaging and welcoming environment for fans, offering everything from jerseys and hats to foam fingers and memorabilia. Their friendly and approachable demeanour makes the stand a popular spot for fans before, during, and after games.

Over the years, Aleita and Evonne’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. They have received accolades from the Townsville Fire organisation and heartfelt thanks from fans and players alike. However, for Aleita and Evonne, the greatest reward is the joy they bring to fans and the connections they build within the community.

Here’s to Aleita, Evonne, and all the volunteers who light up our communities with their selfless service. We look forward to many more years of their infectious enthusiasm and unwavering support.
