Andrews set for National Champs
April 7, 2017 | Townsville Fire news
JCU Townsville Fire development player Haylee Andrews will spearhead Queensland North’s hopes at the Under-18 National Championships.
Having led all scorers at the Under-16 National Championships two years ago, Andrews, who saw action in seven WNBL games this season, leads a powerful line-up that includes Queensland Country Health Fund Academy stars Aliza Fabbro, Alex Fowler and Majella Carey.
With the tournament set to take place on their home floor, Queensland North will be hoping to dethrone Victoria Metro, who won the title 12 months ago.
“It’s another great opportunity for Haylee and our Academy players to show their wares on the national stage,” Fire coach Claudia Brassard said.
“These are the best basketballers in their age group and there will be a number of players hoping to push their names forward for national selection.
“I’m sure we’re seeing a number of future Opals at the tournament.”
Queensland North commence their campaign at Townsville Basketball tomorrow night with a first-up encounter against ACT from 8pm.
