August 23, 2017 | Townsville Fire news
Australia has kept their unblemished record intact at the World University Games after clinching a 69-47 victory overnight against Argentina. JCU Townsville Fire forward Darcee Garbin was once again the leader for the Opals, posting a double-double in another captain’s performance. In her second World Uni Games campaign, the James Cook University business student posted 15 points and 11 rebounds including six offensive as she did most of her damage from beyond the arc. The Opals co-captain nailed three of her four long-range attempts, while also dishing out an assist, block and steal. UC Capitals centre Lauren Scherf top-scored with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Fire championship winner Ally Wilson had eight points. The Emerging Opals will face their sternest test tonight when they confront Russia, which clinched silver at the 2015 tournament. Click here for full box scores at the World Uni Games.
